PORT TOWNSEND — When Norm Dicks last visited Jefferson County in November, the congressman helped break ground for the renovation of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
When he visited Tuesday, he toured the nearly completed facility at Fort Worden State Park. He saw first-hand what a $150,000 Save America’s Treasures grant helped build.
He may also be back to speak during the dedication of the Natural History Building, a cooperative effort of the Burke Museum of Natural History and the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
Peter Badame, director of finance and development for the marine center, invited Dicks, D-Bremerton, for the occasion, set for Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.
That may not be all. The veteran congressman will be asked to attend other Jefferson County projects in the future — the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend and the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding’s campus in Port Hadlock.
On Tuesday, Dicks listened closely to information regarding the maritime and boat-building projects during a roundtable discussion hosted by the Economic Development Council of Jefferson County.
He later addressed the Port Townsend Rotary Club, discussed historical preservation issues with members of the Port Townsend Main Street Program, visited the marine center and talked about Fort Worden’s centennial celebration next year.
