PORT ANGELES — Some spaces remain open for fall classes at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center, said Director Ron Craig.
Although North Olympic Peninsula public school districts begin fall classes this week, registration for fall classes will continue until Sept. 17 at the skills center, 905 W. Ninth St.
The skills center offers technical training opportunities for local students ages 16 to 21.
Students can choose from automotive technology, building trades, collision repair, commercial art, composites, cosmetology, culinary arts, broadcast media/PA TV, information technology, medical careers and natural resources and welding.
Two courses — green building trades and cultural and natural resources — have a newer look, Craig said.
Green building trades is a partnership between the skills center and Peninsula College.
“An added bonus to this class is green trades and welding students will be able to start earlier than previous years,” Craig said.
“Additionally, students who complete with a B [grade] or better will be eligible for three college credits from Peninsula College,” he added.
“In previous years, welding students would have not started class until the third week of September.”
Cultural and natural resources is a hands-on class that combines environmental service learning projects with human history of the region.
The course is team-taught by Jamie Valadez and Dan Lieberman.
The yearlong class runs in the early afternoon daily and offers three high school credits for the year and four college credits.
