PORT ANGELES — The Alliance for Child Welfare Excellence will present its “Caregiver Core Training” classes in September.
To participate in the core training, orientation training must be completed.
Orientation is designed to help guide participants through the licensing process and provide a brief overview on what foster parenting is about.
The class will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, at the state Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) office, 201 W. First St. Suite No. 2.
During the class, attendees can meet other prospective foster parents and a licensor will be available to answer questions.
The core training will be held Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 7, 8, 14, and 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in DCYF’s conference room.
Registration is required for the classes.
To register, visit www.allianceforchildwelfare. org.
The sessions are designed to help attendees understand how the foster care system works, what their role is as a member of the team, how to effectively work with birth families and how caregiving can affect families.
They also cover child development, the impact of trauma, attachment, as well as how to incorporate and honor a child’s culture into your family.
