Realtors, bank offer fundraising help to Sequim youth club

SEQUIM — July could be a particularly sunny month for the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.

The club, in the midst of summer day camp, field trips and Campaign for Kids fundraising, may receive an infusion of cash from The Brokers Group Real Estate Professionals of Sequim, co-owner Hazel Ault said Wednesday.

If a home buyer or seller contacts the company and indicates interest in supporting the Boys & Girls Club — and a home sale is made by Dec. 31 — real estate agents will donate 20 percent of their commissions, Ault said.

Escrow deadline

The property must go into escrow, however, by July 31.

Several Realtors from The Brokers Group stopped by the Boys & Girls Club at 400 W. Fir St. on Wednesday afternoon to explain why, even in this difficult real estate market, they want to hand over a portion of their income to the organization.

‘People want to help’

“Even in down times, people want to help,” said Sherry Siegel, “and that goes for Realtors and home buyers.”

“We all care about the club,” added agent Jen Krumpe, though not all have children who go to the club.

With community organizations needing support more than ever, said Brokers Group co-owner Deborah Norman, “this is a way we can work together.”

To contact The Brokers Group, visit the offices at 219 W. Washington St. or phone 360-681-8778.

Frontier Bank barbecue

Frontier Bank in Sequim is also aiming to feed the Boys & Girls Club — with hot dogs and dollars. The bank will host a fundraising barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at its 901 W. Washington St. branch.

Children from the club will enjoy lunch on Frontier Bank, said club volunteerStephen Rosales, while the public is invited to the bank for hot dogs, chips, beverages and dessert. Payment is by donation.

For information about Friday’s barbecue, phone 360-681-2590.

Fun on the Field

One more July fundraiser comes in the form of Fun on the Field, a new event featuring family activities and food during the Sequim Lavender Festival July 17-19.

Club kids and volunteers will sell candles, bath salts and cotton candy on the West Fir Street green field near the festival’s Street Fair.

The summer day camp at the Boys & Girls Club still has space for children age 6 through 12, while the teen club has activities and field trips planned through August.

To learn more, visit the Sequim club or phone 360-683-8095.

The Mount Angeles unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula is at 2620 S. Francis St., Port Angeles.
