SEQUIM — A Reader’s Digest contest that encourages Americans to cheer for their city and tell their stories has been extended — and Sequim’s marketing director has renewed her exhortations for support to win prizes ranging from $10,000 to $40,000.
Now through May 16, supporters of cities can visit www.readersdigest.com to register cheers up to 10 times daily.
Sequim had a good turnout for the first phase of the contest with about 1,600 cheers, said Barbara Hanna, city of Sequim communications and marketing director.
A few other cheers
Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Forks and Port Ludlow also received a few cheers.
The new contest began March 8, and Sequim was ranked 188 with 151 cheers late Friday.
“You can also tell your story and the story of our community,” Hanna said.
The contest runs now through May 16.
“Vote daily and tell your friends,” Hanna said.
The top prize is $40,000, second prize is $25,000, and the four runners-up prizes, which are based on size of the city, are each $10,000.
The winnings can be used for civic works, to promote tourism or to generate job growth and economic development.
In addition to the dollars that will be awarded, Reader’s Digest will feature cities and towns across America with stories in its magazine and/or website focusing on how individuals, leaders and communities are facing the present challenges.
