PORT TOWNSEND — A string of medical office building burglaries over the past two weeks has Port Townsend Police Department officials urging medical professionals and other property owners to lock their doors and windows.
The most recent burglary occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in a building housing dental and chiropractic offices on the 1200 block of west Sims Way in Port Townsend.
Port Townsend City Councilman Geoff Masci, the chiropractor whose practice was broken into Monday night, was out of town and could not be reached for comment.
“The bottom line is someone is going to medical buildings and gaining access through either an open window or an unlocked window,” said Detective Mike Evans.
“What’s also consistent is they’re looking for cash.”
The only thing taken from the most recent burglary, according to Dr. Jack Hardie, the dentist in the building, was about $100 cash.
He said files appeared to be rummaged through, but it seemed clear that the burglars were only interested in cash.
“We don’t keep a lot of money and we don’t keep drugs in here,” said Hardie.
Hardie said the burglars forced locked cabinets open on Masci’s side of the building.
