Rally set Saturday to support women’s choice

PORT TOWNSEND — A rally in support of women’s reproductive rights is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Participants will meet at the triangle — Kearney Street/Jefferson Street/E. Sims Way — and spread out down Water Street as far as possible, organizers said.

Indivisible is supporting Planned Parenthood protests all over the country on Saturday to protest the Supreme Court’s draft decision that would nullify Roe v. Wade, law of the land for half a century, that upheld the right to safe, legal abortions and return the power to legislate abortion to the individual states.

Joint effort

Sequim will host its Grand Finale of the Irrigation Festival at the same time, so Indivisible Sequim and Voices for Health & Healing are joining Indivisible Port Townsend at their rally.

From Indivisible: “We all know that protest doesn’t fix things on its own. But popular backlash can weaken the resolve of our adversaries, while the lack of popular backlash can embolden them. If you’ve never protested before, this is the time to join us. Stand up, be heard.”

Sign suggestions include Abortion is healthcare; It takes two to make a baby; Save Roe v. Wade.

Voices for Health & Healing is organizing a car caravan to carry people over to Port Townsend to join the rally.

Those in need of a ride can email greenpastures164@gmail.com or phone Tim Wheeler at 360-683-0735.
