Quimper Mercantile launches general manager search

PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper Mercantile is seeking a new general manager.

Holly Mayshark, present general manager, will remain with Quimper Mercantile at 1121 Water St., as head buyer, a position she has essentially filled since joining the company as its first assistant manager at its launch in 2012 and while she has been Quimper’s general manager, a role she took on in 2017.

“We are at a point where a full-time buyer, separate from the GM, is essential to our growth,” said board President Peter Quinn. “Holly and the board have been discussing this option for a while.

“Having her continue as head buyer is a real plus as we seek a new general manager,” Quinn said.

“She has been a huge contributor to Quimper’s success and we applaud her commitment to continue doing so as head buyer.”

Moving forward

Quinn said that a search has begun for a new general manager.

It will end once a new manager has been selected.

Said Mayshark: “It is time to secure Quimper’s future and for me to step back a bit. I look forward to continuing to contribute as the principal buyer and working closely with the new general manager.”

In the nine years since Quimper Mercantile opened, it has had two general managers. Sheldon Spencer served from its opening in 2012 until 2017, when he was succeeded by Mayshark.

Quimper Mercantile Company is a local public stock company.

It opened on Oct. 11, 2012, after a successful local public stock offering in 2011.

The project was put together after Swain’s Outdoor closed to provide Jefferson County a local option for everyday merchandise, including clothing for men and women, shoes, sporting goods and household goods.
