FORKS — The Quillayute Valley School Board will listen to public comment about new proposed school board member boundaries at a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Forks High School library, 261 Spartan Ave.
According to state law, every 10 years, after completion of the latest U.S. census, school districts must review the boundaries of their Board of Director districts to determine if new boundaries must be redrawn so all of them have roughly the same number of people.
The QVSD contracted with Sammamish Data Systems in Redmond to develop a proposal for new boundaries for its five districts, each of which will have about 1,320 residents.
Realignment of the districts within the QVSD affects school board elections, not where a child attends school, nor will it impact current school board directors as long as they still reside within the district boundaries where they were elected.
Of school districts on the Olympic Peninsula, Port Townsend redrew its director boundaries this summer, Chimacum redrew them last year, and Port Angeles had no plans to redraw theirs.
