FORKS — Ron Hurn has been appointed to the Quillayute Valley School Board.
Hurn — the lone applicant for the Position 4 seat formerly held by Brain Pederson, who resigned in October — was appointed Tuesday night on a 3-0 vote.
The appointment brings the five-seat board up to four members.
Hurn, a log buyer for Port Angeles Hardwood and a former volunteer and coach for the school district, will be sworn in along with newly elected board member Val James Giles, Position 1, during an early January ceremony, said Bill Rohde, board chairman.
Rohde and Mike Reaves, who were both re-elected to their positions Nov. 3, also will be sworn in for their new terms in January.
There are no applicants for the Position 2 seat, which represents an area of southwest Forks, including areas near Bogachiel Way and toward LaPush Road.
Rick Gale resigned from the Position 2 seat on Oct. 13.
The application period for the position remains open.

School Board directors oversee a budget in excess of $28 million, with responsibility for policy and governance of district schools, as well as Insight School of Washington, a distance-learning Internet-based school.
