PORT ANGELES — The Quillayute Valley School Board is seeking two new members after accepting two resignations this week.
The three remaining board members — Dave Dickson, Bill Rohde and Mike Reaves — unanimously accepted the resignations of veteran members Rick Gale and Brian Pederson at the regular board meeting Tuesday.
Gale’s resignation was effective Oct. 13 and Pederson’s on Oct. 15.
Board members and Superintendent Diana Reaume said they would not speak for Gale and Pederson as to their reasons for leaving the board.
Gale’s and Pederson’s resignation letters were not immediately available, and neither could be reached for comment Tuesday or Wednesday.
Applicants to fill the empty seats should submit a letter of interest to district secretary Lindsey Wallerstedt, QVSD Office, 411 S. Spartan Ave., Forks, WA 98331
The deadline for applications is Nov. 6.
Candidates for appointment to the position by the School Board must be a U.S. citizen 18 or older, a citizen of Washington state, a registered voter and reside within the boundaries of the district they are applying for.
School Board directors oversee a budget in excess of $28 million, with responsibility for policy and governance of district schools, as well as Insight School of Washington, a distance-learning Internet-based school.
For specific boundary details, prospective applicants should phone district offices at 360-374-6262, ext. 267.
Gale, who held Position 2 on the board, had been a member since 2005.
“I’m sad he’s no longer able to be on the board,” Rohde said.
Reaume said Gale was “a great advocate for our kids” and that she expects to see him at school sports and other events.
“He’ll be around,” she said.
Pederson, who held Position 4 on the board, had been a member since 2009.
He co-chaired the committee that was able to get a bond passed to replace Forks High School, Reaume said.
“He said he is not going to be volunteering for anything for a while,” she said.
