A new cultural event will be front and center during this year’s Quileute Days.
The bounty of activities will be particularly interesting for fans of the blockbuster hit movie “Twilight,” in which the main character Bella Swan befriends a Quileute boy.
Wolf Dancers
The Quileute cultural arts program Saturday starting at 2 p.m. will feature the Wolf Dancers as well as the tribe’s special guest for the three-day festival, Solomon Trimble.
Trimble plays a Quileute boy in the movie version of “Twilight.”
Native American himself — Mescalero Apache and Lakota — Trimble will share some of his personal poetry during the performance.
“I am superexcited to participate in this activity,” Trimble said.
“I look forward to the ceremonial dances with the Wolf Dancers.”
Quileute Days is an annual festival to celebrate and share the history and culture of the tribe.
From traditional tribal games such as the stick games to canoe races, the events each focus on a special part of the tribal culture.
“Quileute Days is an exuberant celebration with ceremonial songs and dances,” said tribal vice-chairwoman Bonita Cleveland.
Traditional dance groups the Alaskan Northern Star, Quinault Dancers and the hosting tribe Quileute Dance Group are scheduled to perform.
“Do not miss this special ceremony and experience of the different groups representing their culture in the sacred way,” she said.
“We are doing it as our ancestors have done it a long time ago. The footsteps have been laid down for us to follow.”
In addition to the activities of the weekend, visitors can also check out First Beach, a multitude of tribal arts and dance the night away at the street dances on Friday and Saturday.
Autographed photos of Trimble will be available for $5. To get a picture taken with the actor on First Beach will cost $10.
The cultural performance is $25 admission.
