Quilcene man hurt in canal bridge wreck

SHINE — A Quilcene man was injured in a one-car crash on the Hood Canal Bridge early Sunday morning.

Larry C. King, 37, was listed in serious condition with internal injuries at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center on Sunday night.

The State Patrol said King was eastbound in his 1994 Saturn on the floating bridge at about 2:30 a.m. when the car crossed the center line, striking a median barrier.

King was ejected from the car and landed on the bridge deck, while the car stopped in the middle of the westbound lane.

The bridge was closed for about an hour.

The State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, said alcohol or drugs are believed to be contributing factors.

PORT ANGELES — Results of a student survey will be presented at the Port Angeles School Board meeting today.

The public is invited to hear about the perceptions, attitudes, and experiences of youth, based on the 2008 Communities That Care Student Survey data.

The presentation — at 7 p.m. at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St. ¬– is intended to allow the allow the public to know more about the challenges that confront Port Angeles youth, and the people who work with them.

The presentation will be by Michael Arthur of the University of Washington and Karen Meyer, prevention specialist with Clallam County Health and Human Services.

During the past eight years, the Port Angeles School District has been one of several in the state participating in a federally-funded study of youth that is part of the on-going work conducted by UW researchers.

The school district is a partner in the research with the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition, which was responsible for oversight of the Communities That Care grant and oversees a continuation grant focusing on preventing underage drinking.

Programs that have been funded by this grant include parenting education workshops, school prevention programs and community trainings on relevant issues and topics.
