A Lower Elwha tribal program to restore fish habitat on two rivers begins Wednesday with uprooted trees being moved to staging areas near the waterways.
Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission Regional Information Officer Emmett O”Connell said trees with the roots still attached will be moved from Merrill & Ring’s East 3000 gate at Pysht to East Twin River near Clallam Bay and to the Lower Elwha reservation.
A total of 33 trees are slated for transport, including the 13 being moved to the reservation, O’Connell said.
The trees will be put in the rivers to slow streamflows and create fish habitat.
The trees will be moved between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
