PORT TOWNSEND — They arrived a week ago Sunday, a crew of 72 people, including an architect, an engineer, contractors, roofers, electricians and landscapers.
They brought their own tools, a Bobcat and $25,000 worth of lumber, siding and materials.
Last Monday morning, the crew set to work, framing interior walls, removing old roofing, replacing siding, installing windows and doors, pouring concrete, painting and landscaping.
On Saturday, they packed up their tools and drove away, leaving a remodeled building — but no bill.
This is not a reality show, but an extreme church makeover, Foursquare style.
The crew: volunteers from Foursquare Church of Federal Way were in town on a mission — to remodel the local Foursquare church, a former skating rink on San Juan Avenue, inside and out.
“This is a great reminder that we are part of a bigger community,” said Jake Dragseth, pastor of New Song Foursquare, as he joined in the work on Thursday.
“The other side of it is that we want to be a more active part of Port Townsend.”
