PORT TOWNSEND — Four candidates for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue’s vacant fire chief position are in the area for a round of interviews from the department as well as the public.
At 6 tonight, members of the public are invited to the Jacob Miller Fire Station, 35 Critter Lane, to meet with the finalists for the job.
The four candidates include two Washingtonians, Brian P. Smith of Longview and Stephen Murphy of University Place, plus Kenneth Johnson of Eagle Point, Ore., and Henry Lipe of Hampton, N.H.
Keppie Keplinger, fire district spokeswoman, said the evening won’t be filled with campaigning and speechmaking, but will be very casual and social.
“It’s not going to be long speeches,” Keplinger said. “It’s cookies, coffee and meeting with people in the community.
“This is a strictly social meeting.”
