PORT TOWNSEND — The city would pay $66,000 annually for use of the Mountain View school campus, according to a proposed lease agreement that will be the topic of a public hearing Monday.
Under the terms of the proposed lease — which would be for five years, beginning in September — the city also would pay all utility charges and all taxes and assessments.
The Port Townsend School Board will conduct the hearing at 5:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Building, 450 Fir St.
The hearing is one of three public hearings set for Monday before the board convenes its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m.
A public hearing at 6 p.m. will consider a proposed budget for the 2009-2010 school year.
At 6:30 p.m., the board plans a public hearing on a proposed budget extension in the 2008-09 capital projects fund.
It has scheduled a 7 p.m. closed executive session, if it determines one is needed.
The school district closed Mountain View school, at 1919 Blaine St., in June.
The city of Port Townsend plans to use the property for a variety of purposes, such as relocating the police department, temporarily housing the library during its planned remodeling, offering space for YMCA programs and other public services.
It also would maintain and operate the swimming pool, the only public pool in Port Townsend.
The proposed lease says that the city of Port Townsend will pay the school district in monthly installments for use of the property.
The school district would reserve the right to use some parts of the campus for classrooms or other uses, the proposed lease says.
After a five-year period, beginning Aug. 31, 2014, the lease would continue on a year-to-year basis unless either the district or the city terminates it.
Two years notice would be necessary for termination of the lease agreement.
A draft of the proposed lease is available for public review at the Port Townsend School District office.
During Monday’s meeting, the board also will consider issuing a $475,000 limited general obligation bond to fund costs connected with adding modular buildings at Blue Heron Middle School to house students displaced by the closure of Mountain View Elementary School.
