PORT ANGELES — A public workshop early next year will let residents review competing proposals for replacing the 43-year-old William Shore Memorial Pool.
Those proposals are refurbishing the existing pool at 225 E. Fifth St. and building a new pool in partnership with the Clallam County Family YMCA in the existing YMCA building at 302 S. Francis St.
City Parks and Recreation Director Marc Connelly said proposed sites and options for operating them will be displayed at the workshop, which will provide the public the opportunity to comment.
YMCA Executive Director Dan Maguire said the proposals will include floor and site plans, plus operating and construction estimates and a narrative of how each would operate.
“We need to work on message that it would be a partnership between the city and the YMCA,” Maguire said.
“It wouldn’t be a YMCA pool but a city pool or community pool located at the YMCA.”
New layout
If the pool is built onto the existing YMCA building, it would cover the alley to the south and two or more of the YMCA-owned houses on the other side of the alley.
Maguire said the YMCA plans to gauge the neighborhood’s reaction, similar to when a teen center was opened at that location.
The city is considering building a new public pool to replace the 43-year-old William Shore Memorial Pool.
