PT man airlifted to Harborview after three-vehicle wreck

PORT HADLOCK — A Port Townsend man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and a driver was cited following a three-vehicle collision early Friday afternoon north of Port Hadlock.

According to the State Patrol, Steven B. Coulter, 31, Port Hadlock was driving a 2006 GMC pickup truck southbound on state Highway 19 at Irondale Road about 12:20 p.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, Schweitzer Chase J. Schweitzer, 19, Port Townsend was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup truck northbound on Highway 19 at Irondale Road.

A 2010 Honda Accord driven by Hayden C. Montgomery, 16, Port Townsend also was southbound on Highway 19 at Irondale Road.

Coulter failed to yield and turned left in front of Schweitzer, the State Patorl said in the incident memo. Schweitzer made an evasive maneuver into the southbound lane and struck Montgomery’s Accord head-on, the memo said.

Coulter was uninjured. It was unknown whether he was wearing his seatbelt. He was cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to yield.

Schweitzer was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

Montgomery was injured and taken to Jefferson General Hospital in Port Townsend. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Coulter’s GMC pickup sustained non-reportable damage. Schweitzer Toyota pickup was listed as completely destroyed as was Montgomery’s Honda Accord. The roadway was partially blocked for two and a half hours.

Conditions of those sent to hospitals were not available .
