PORT TOWNSEND – Get quackin’!
The next rubber duck race on the North Olympic Peninsula will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3, in the bay next to the Port Townsend Marine Science Center in Fort Worden State Park.
The second annual Port Townsend Duck Derby raises money to help fund student athletics at Blue Heron Middle School and Port Townsend High School.
Tickets are on sale at the Peninsula Daily News office in Port Townsend, 1939 E. Sims Way, and at other businesses in Port Townsend and Jefferson County.
Up to 10,000 rubber ducks will be released June 3.
The first duck washed ashore by the waves off the Marine Science Center will be the winner.
Its ticket holder will get $3,000.
There are prizes for holders of tickets on next 12 top-finishing ducks, including $1,000 cash from 7 Cedars Casino for second place; a travel packages to Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa; a year of one free cup of coffee per day from Grounds for Perfection; tires worth $500 from Les Schwab; Mariner baseball tickets and $100 gift certificates from Swain’s Outdoor.
The duck derby is sponsored by SOS – Save Our Sports Foundation – a volunteer group of parents and students. Its goal is to raise $18,000.
