PORT TOWNSEND — A 100-fire engine procession will pass through Port Townsend on its way to the memorial service of fallen firefighter Andy Palmer at the McCurdy Pavilion in Fort Worden State Park on Monday.
The memorial service, which will begin at 10 a.m., and is open to anyone who mourns Mr. Palmer.
More than 1,000 people are expected at the service, said Mr. Palmer’s mother, Janet Palmer of Port Townsend.
“This is going to be a huge service,” she said.
“This is a party he really would have enjoyed.”

Mr. Palmer died on July 25 after he was hit by a falling tree while fighting a fire in the Shasta-Trinity National Park in Northern California.
He was one of four members of a team from the Olympic National Park.
He was 18 years old.
A recent graduate of Port Townsend High School, he had also lived much of his life in Port Angeles.
