Proceeds from fundraiser to go to Olympic Medical Center therapy pool

PORT ANGELES — A benefit later this month will raise money for a water therapy pool at Olympic Medical Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in Port Angeles.

The Olympic Medical Center Foundation will give all proceeds from the Aug. 23 fundraiser, “Hog Wild — A Night of Games, Suds and Grub” at Barhop Brewing in Port Angeles to OMC to fund capital improvements of the pool, said Bruce Skinner, foundation executive director.

The fundraiser will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the brewery at 124 W. Railroad Ave.

It will feature a pig roast, Barhop micro brews and several games where attendees can win prizes.

Tickets are $25. They can be obtained by phoning the foundation office at 360-417-7144.

The fundraiser is presented by Sequim Health and Rehabilitation and Crestwood Health and Rehabilitation, which also will make a major donation to the project, Skinner said.

Those who don’t attend the benefit can donate by mailing checks earmarked “Support the Therapy Pool” to the Olympic Medical Center Foundation at 928 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

“The foundation will give 100 percent of monies that are donated for this project,” Skinner said in a news release.

OMC commissioners announced Wednesday that the therapy pool will remain open.

Earlier, the hospital had said it would close the pool, a plan protested by its users.

After hearing of the imminent closure of the therapy pool in early July, an anonymous donor committed to donating $25,000 — half of the $50,000 needed to purchase a new pool liner and other needed renovations — if the donation is matched.

“We have sponsored and donated to the foundation for several years now, and we are pleased to be a part of the effort to make our local medical center a great rural center,” said Ed Ebling, Sequim Health and Rehabilitation administrator.

Said Michael Littman, Crestwood Health and Rehabilitation administrator: “We appreciate the opportunity to make a difference.”

“Hog Wild — A Night of Games, Suds and Grub” is the foundation’s first new event since the Sonny Sixkiller Golf Classic in July was added four years ago.

The foundation also organizes a heart-health-oriented luncheon Red, Set, Go! in February, the Duck Derby in June and the Festival of Trees in December, among other events, to raise money for OMC.
