Prison escapee from West Jefferson County still at large

CLEARWATER — A prisoner is still at large after escaping from a minimum-security work camp in West Jefferson County over the weekend.

No new developments were reported late Monday afternoon in the search for Darby R. Maguire, 27.

He disappeared Saturday evening from Olympic Corrections Center, which is about 25 miles south of Forks.

Maguire is 6 feet tall, with brown eyes and short brown hair, state Department of Corrections spokesman Chad Lewis said.

Maguire was wearing the prison uniform — a red shirt and khaki pants.

He is serving a 4½-year sentence after being convicted of three counts of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree robbery in Whatcom County.

At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 25 prisoners were taken outside of the perimeter fence to the work camp’s running track under the supervision of several corrections officers, Lewis said.

The evening run is part of a regular routine.

But an 8:30 head count revealed that Maguire was missing.

The prison was put on lockdown, and corrections officers formed a response team, Lewis said.

The corrections center remained on a modified lockdown Monday evening.

Prisoners were allowed only to circulate within their living areas and go to the cafeteria for meals.

Anyone who encounters Maguire or has information on his whereabouts should call 9-1-1 immediately, Lewis said.

Do not try to take any other action to apprehend him, Lewis warned.

The search team includes staff members from Olympic Corrections Center, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the State Patrol and Stafford Creek Corrections Center, a medium-security prison located near Aberdeen.
