Print out this ballot for Readers Theatre Plus’ Dewey Awards voting

SEQUIM — In a local version of the Academy Awards, voting is open now for Best Production, Best Lead Actress, Best Lead Actor, Best Ensemble, Best Director and other honors from the past year’s offerings from the Readers Theatre Plus troupe.

These are the Dewey Awards, prizes named after local musical conductor and actor Dewey Ehling, and they’re open to theater-goers who have attended various Readers Theatre Plus shows since April 2012.

Voters are asked to cast their ballots by Saturday, June 22, in time for the ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. June 30.

The Dewey Awards will be presented after the final performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado,” a Readers Theatre Plus production coming later this month to the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road.

“The Mikado,” directed by Ehling, will have a two-weekend run at the Schoolhouse: June 21-23 and June 28-30.

Tickets will be $15 at the door or two for $25 if purchased in advance at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., or Odyssey Books, 114 W. Front St., Port Angeles.

As with all Readers Theatre Plus shows, ticket proceeds will benefit local charities.

“The Mikado’s” beneficiaries are the Peninsula Singers ensemble, the Sequim Museum & Arts Center and Readers Theatre Plus scholarships for local high school students.

Dewey Awards ballots, meanwhile, may be emailed to sfx@wavecable.com or sent to RT+, 1291 Thornton Drive, Sequim, WA 98382.
