TIME TO GET those ballots signed, sealed and delivered — Election Day is today.
Ballots must be postmarked by today or dropped off by no later than 8 p.m. at an official drop box to be counted in the all-mail primary election.
Not all North Olympic Peninsula voters have primary decisions to make. Nobody is voting on the West End of Clallam County, for example.
Drop boxes in Clallam County are located at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles and Sequim City Hall, 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
In Jefferson County, drop boxes are located in the rear parking lot of the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend; and in the parking lot of the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.
In the “top two” primary election system, races with three or more candidates are narrowed down to two for the Nov. 5 general election.
Voting is limited to the jurisdiction or district for the office to be decided. There is no countywide voting until the general election.
Contested primary races are for Port of Port Angeles commissioner in Sequim-area District 1, Port Angeles School District director, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 commissioner in Sequim-area District 3, and Port of Port Townsend commissioner in the Chimacum-area District 2.
Port Townsend voters are paring candidates for two City Council seats, Positions 1 and 5, and are deciding Proposition 1, a $3 million library improvement bond.
The bond measure needs a 60 percent supermajority to pass.
Election officials Monday reported a 22.3 percent return rate in Clallam County and a 32.7 percent ballot-return in Jefferson County.
That means about one in four registered voters in affected jurisdictions will decide in Clallam County and one out of four in Jefferson County.
Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand said 9,168 of the 41,110 ballots mailed were back at the Auditor’s Office.
Jefferson County Voter Registration Coordinator Betty Johnson said 4,927 of the 15,070 ballots mailed had been returned.
Election results will be posted on www.peninsuladailynews.com shortly after they become available tonight.
For those who have yet to vote, the Peninsula Daily News’ voter guide, first issued in hard copy July 19, is accessible at www.peninsuladailynews.com.
Click on the “flying eagle” button on the home page to the lower left of the Peninsula Poll feature to access the guide. Adobe Flash Player is required.
A few free copies of the 12-page guide still might be available at city halls, county courthouses and senior-citizens centers as well as the lobby of the PDN’s Port Angeles office at 305 W. First St.
