PORT ANGELES — More than 100 people already have signed up for the third annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 12, and 75 percent are from outside Clallam and Jefferson counties.
“We had 17 online registrations at this time last year and now we have 75, more than 100 including mail-in registrations,” said Larry Little, president of the Port Angeles Marathon Association.
“We have race registrations from Colorado, British Columbia, Oregon, California, Idaho, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and Rhode Island.
“We are known outside the Northwest.”
Runners’ routes
The 26.2-mile marathon route begins at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. The 13.1-mile half-marathon begins at Robin Hill Farm County Park between Sequim and Port Angeles.
Both routes, which use the Olympic Discovery Trail, finish at City Pier in Port Angeles.
Last year the marathon and half-marathon attracted a combined 1,050 runners.
This year’s event also will feature a high school relay, middle school relay and kids marathon.
Little said Swain’s Foundation, in addition to Swain’s General Store, also has agreed to be a race sponsor, and vitamin water manufacturer Glaceau, through Olympic Distributors has donated water to be given to each race finisher.
