BELLEVUE — Port Angeles thrower Troy Martin did more than just break the school record in the discus this weekend.
The senior state contender shattered it.
Martin tossed his disc 175 feet, 8 inches in Friday’s discus competition at the Bellevue Invitational, winning the event easily.
The throw topped the old Roughrider record (166-3), held since 1973 by Jerry Payne, by nearly 9½ feet and qualified Martin for nationals. A day later, he won the shot put with a mark of 50-11½ at the 34-school meet.
Also at the invite, Ian Ward placed third in the high jump (6-4), and Cameron Braithwaite was fifth in the long jump (20-4¼) and seventh in the high jump (6-0).
On the girls side, Alison Maxwell was seventh in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races, and Kathryn Moseley was fifth in the 400.
