KENT — The Port Angeles boys track and field team captured ninth place out of 30 teams scoring points Kent Meridian Invitational on Saturday.
There was a driving cold rain most of the day.
“In spite of the poor conditions, the Port Angeles athletes did quite well,” coach Pat Durr said.
Most of the schools competing were in Class 4A while the Roughriders are a 2A school.
“So this was a pretty good showing for us,” Durr said.
The Riders had one individual champion in boys competition and one third-place finish for the girls and also for the boys.
Troy Martin claimed first place in the discus, throwing 157 feet, 4 inches. He also took fourth place in the shot put (distance unavailable.)
Another two-event placer in the top eight was Parley Scott, taking fifth place in the triple jump with a 40-6 jump.
Parley also took eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.31 seconds.
Tavish Taylor took third place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:50.
Teammate Nick Shindler took eighth place in the 3,200 with a time of 10:06.
Cameron Braithwaite captured seventh place in the long jump with an effort of 20-3.
On the girls side, Alison Maxwell claimed third place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:56.
Tarah Erickson took sixth place in the pole vault with an effort of 9-6.
