PREP SOFTBALL: Sequim perfect in league finale; playoffs next

SEQUIM — The Sequim softball team completed its perfect run through the Olympic League with a 9-6 victory over the Kingston Buccaneers on Friday.

A day after topping Port Angeles 7-6 in an eight-inning classic, the Wolves amassed 12 hits on their way to their 26th straight league victory.

Lead off hitter Rylleigh Zbaraschuk was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Cindy Miller, Lea Hopson and Bailey Rhodefer each added two hits for Sequim.

Demiree Briones went the distance on the mound, striking out three while giving up 11 hits and six runs (four earned).

Friday’s game marked just the second time all season that Sequim (16-0 in league, 19-0 overall) was held under 10 runs.

The Wolves outscored league opponents 267-33 this spring.

They will next play the SPSL’s No. 2 team in a Class 2A sub-district playoff Friday, May 13, at Boise Creek Park in Enumclaw.

Sequim’s four-team sub-district bracket will decide the Nos. 1-4 seeds for the 2A Bi-District tournament.
