PREP BASEBALL: Rodocker strikes out 11 as Port Angeles holds on to beat Chimacum; other area reports

CHIMACUM — Ryan Rodocker allowed just two hits and struck out 11 Chimacum batters in six innings of work, and Port Angeles hung on late to top Chimacum 6-5 in a nonleague baseball game.

“He was the highlight of the day, really,” Roughriders coach Vic Reykdal said of Rodocker.

Stymied by multiple rain-outs this season, Port Angeles (1-1) was finally able to play a full seven-inning contest Wednesday. (The Riders were beaten 10-0 in a five-inning game by Bainbridge earlier this month.)

Noah McGoff had a two-run single and Matt Hendry hit a two-out RBI single for Port Angeles.

“That was some good timely hitting by Matt,” Reykdal said.

Logan Ciaciuch also doubled for Port Angeles.

The win didn’t come easy and wasn’t pretty, as the Riders committed four errors.

“We were in control, up 6-1, and Ryan was cruising through five [innings] and had two outs when we made three errors and gave up three runs,” Reykdal said.

Port Angeles got out of the inning, but the Cowboys made things interesting their final time up to bat.

Janson Pederson came on in relief of Rodocker and plunked the first batter he faced.

That runner eventually scored, and the tying runner made it to third base with two outs.

“Janson stepped up and struck out the last batter with the tying runner at third base,” Reykdal said.

The Riders host Klahowya (4-0) today at Civic Field.

SEQUIM — The Eagles scored seven unanswered runs to earn a come-from-behind victory over the Wolves.

Sequim took a 3-2 lead in the third inning on a bases-clearing double by Daniel Harker.

Klahowya scored two in the top of the fourth to go up 4-3.

The Wolves plated five runs, highlighted by an RBI triple from Gavin Velarde, in the bottom half of the inning to take an 8-4 lead.

Sequim reliever James Grubb pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning to hold the lead, but the Eagles scored five in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Wolves put runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh before Klahowya (4-0) recorded the final out.

Sequim (3-1) hosts Bremerton (1-1) today at 4 p.m.
