A run of nobody having six numbers in the twice-weekly Powerball lotto game has swelled the jackpot to $400 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.
The game is played in Washington and 42 other states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, so today’s jackpot estimate could rise because of added player interest.
If Saturday night’s jackpot is won by a single holder of a $2 ticket, the winner will get at least $400 million less federal tax in a 29-year annuity or take a lump-sum prize estimated pre-tax at $230.3 million, Powerball officials said.
Ticket sales for Wednesday night’s drawing will stop at 7 p.m., and the drawing is scheduled for 7:59 p.m. Pacific time.
