The jackpot for Wednesday night’s Powerball lotto game could exceed the advertised $400 million for a lucky ticket holder, based on brisk sales reported nationwide Tuesday.
The game is played in Washington and 42 other states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The drawing is scheduled Wednesday for 7:59 p.m. PST following a ticket sales cutoff of 7 p.m.
To win, a $2 ticket must match five numbers in any order plus the sixth specific Powerball number. The odds of winning are 1 in 175 million.
A single winner can take $400 million in a 29-year annuity or a lump-sum prize estimated at $227.8 million.
If nobody has a winning ticket, the jackpot rolls over and grows for Saturday’s lotto drawing. That could top a half-billion dollars.
