PORT ANGELES — Residents of the Peninsula Housing Authority’s Terrace Apartments have been without power in their rooms since Friday morning, when an electrical panel malfunctioned.
About 11 of the 60 residents have been relocated to motels or are staying with friends and family, said Terry Madigan, the Housing Authority’s director of asset management.
The apartments at 114 E. Sixth St. house seniors and the disabled.
Margaret Elliott, a resident, said she was taking up the Housing Authority’s offer to house residents in motels to get a warm shower.
“They’ve been real nice,” said Elliott, 84. “They’re trying to do what they can.”
Although power is out for all of the residents’ rooms, Madigan said, electricity remains connected to the community room, kitchen and hallways and provides a source of heat for the residents who remain.
He said power is expected to be fully restored by Wednesday, and Dairy Fresh has offered to store residents’ food.
“We’re very concerned, obviously,” Madigan said.
“Fortunately, some lights are on, and there’s some power.”
Residents with medical equipment have been able to plug into outlets in the hallways, he said.
Elliott said some residents were sleeping on cots in the community room to keep warm.
