SEQUIM — Overcoming mobility challenges is the theme of a “Hot Wheelers Rodeo” for owners of electric scooters and power chairs.
The rodeo and race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Sequim Senior Center, 921 E. Hammond St.
Organizers say scooters and power-chair owners will pilot them through an obstacle course to teach safety, and there will be drag races — just for the fun of it.
“We’ve been very pleased to see the enthusiasm for the idea from local sponsors and participants,” said Margaret Witt, an advocate for people facing mobility challenges.
Her husband, Howard, uses a power scooter in his travels around Sequim after being crippled by rheumatoid arthritis, she said.
Mrs. Witt said businesses and organizations are donating prizes for the event.
Angeles Medical Supply has donated a “Christmas Tree” starting light for drag race authenticity.
Pre-registration isn’t required for competitors.
