PORT TOWNSEND — The crew members of the Coast Guard cutter Osprey will be honored for their part in the biggest — and possibly most mysterious — cocaine seizure ever in the Pacific Northwest.
Dubbed as the “Snowflake ceremony,”‘ it will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. and will recognize the Feb. 21 apprehension of the Western Wind. Authorities said they found 5,538 pounds of cocaine aboard.
The ceremony will take place alongside the cutter at Boat Haven Pier on Benedict Street.
U.S. Customs agents and three Coast Guard cutters — including the 87-foot Osprey from Port Townsend, Orcas of Coos Bay, Ore., and Cowslip of Astoria, Ore. — and a helicopter from the Coast Guard station in Port Angeles participated in the bust.
