TACOMA — Jeray Key scored nine consecutive points in the final two minutes of the first half, part of his 19-point performance, and 2007 runner-up Mark Morris raced past Port Townsend 57-40 on Saturday for third place in the Class 2A boys state tournament.

Mark Morris took control outscoring the Redskins 20-4 in the second quarter. Key hit back-to-back 3-pointers and had a flailing right-handed hook shot fall as he was being fouled to help build a 28-14 halftime lead for the Monarchs.

Mark Morris shot 50 percent from the field in the first half on 10 of 20 shooting compared to only 26.1 percent from Port Townsend.

Aaron Gifford and Parker McClelland led the Redskins with nine points each but they could never cut into Mark Morris’ lead. The lead reached its largest margin of 21 points late in the fourth quarter.

Eric Hutchison brought down a game high 11 rebounds for the Monarchs.
