Port Townsend’s Gallery Walk appeals to all tastes today

PORT TOWNSEND — The galleries come in all flavors in downtown Port Townsend.

From a full-on nonprofit art museum to an ice cream parlor, they’re open today (Saturday) for the monthly Gallery Walk from 5:30 p.m. till 8 p.m.

It’s free to visit the venues, and most have refreshments laid out.

Among the highlights on the circuit:

■ The Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., presents a dual show by photographer Will Kalb and multimedia artist Stephanie Oliveira.

■ Elevated Ice Cream, 631 Water St., is bedecked with Jeff “the Otter Guy” Tocher’s paintings.

■ Studio 36, on the third floor of the Mount Baker Block building at 211 Taylor St., presents “Portraits: Drawings and Installation” by Denise Banker and the late Bill Yates. This show integrates drawings, live installation, sound design, video, and staging created with the assistance of Camille Hildebrandt, Dmitry Artamonov and David Noble.

■ Gallery Nine, 1012 Water St., highlights the masks and mixed-media work of Cynthia Thomas alongside the baidarkas, kayaks built by Mitch Poling.

■ The Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St. in the Waterman & Katz building, presents “Book Inspired,” a juried show of art in response to literature.

A reception with the participating artists is set for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and then jurors David Sessions and Lynnette Sandbloom will give a free talk at 1 p.m. Sunday.

■ Also at the Northwind Arts Center, PT Shorts, the free literary reading that happens every month thanks to Key City Public Theatre will start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The reading will delve into his year’s Port Townsend Community Read, The Jupiter Pirates: Hunt for the Hydra by Jason Fry.
