PORT TOWNSEND — Sunny skies and bright ideas brought crowds of people to Memorial Field on Sunday for Port Townsend’s first EarthDay EveryDay celebration of all things green.
“We came because of Earth Day,” said Michael Sutton, who brought his family from Enumclaw for the event, “and we like Port Townsend — and it’s a beautiful day.”
The event was organized by a group of Port Townsend women to bring people together to think about ways to be kinder to the Earth.
More than 90 groups set up displays or booths at the fair, which was focused on alternative transportation, sustainable agriculture, recycling and green building.
“We’re here because there’s a good emphasis on green and healthy building,” said Anthony Francis, a former New Yorker who was strolling the field with his wife, Kristin Axtman, and baby Porter.
“We’re very interested because we just moved here, are starting to build our house and want to do it right from the beginning.”
The chance to see electric cars up close was a draw for Chad and Becky Nugan, who came from Auburn for the day.
