Port Townsend woman remains in intensive care following head-on wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman who was airlifted to Seattle last week after a head-on collision was still in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center on Monday.

Jane Lee, a 67-year-old resident of Jefferson County, had been in critical condition last Tuesday after colliding head-on with a dump truck on Hastings Avenue near Port Townsend. While she is still in the ICU at Harborview, hospital staff declined to release an update on her condition.

Lee had to be extracted from her gray Toyota Tacoma by first responders after the wreck and was immediately taken to Jefferson County International Airport where she was flown to Harborview.

According to a news release from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Lee suffered multi-system trauma but was responsive when first responders arrived on the scene.

According to the agency, Lee was driving west on Hastings Avenue and attempted to pass another vehicle when she collided with a Seaton Construction dump truck in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the dump truck, 40-year-old David Moore, sustained minor injuries.

The wreck occurred near the intersection of Hastings Avenue and Ivy Street and the road was closed from about 4:30 p.m. until 12:46 a.m.

The closure was lengthy due to the Port Townsend Police Department calling in State Patrol officers from Bremerton to help with the investigation and the cleanup of fluids spilling from the dump truck.

An update on the State Patrol investigation was not immediately available Monday.

The truck, which had crashed into a tree barrier on the north side of Hastings Avenue, had to be towed from the scene by All City Towing from Port Townsend.
