PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a rollover wreck on the corner of Cape George and Nelson’s Landing roads just south of Port Townsend on Thursday.
Pauline Longcrier, 65, of Port Townsend suffered head and neck injuries after her vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, then swerved off the road, hitting a guide pole and rolling, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Gordon Tamura, who responded to the wreck Thursday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office was investigating the cause of the wreck and whether another vehicle was involved.
“We’re trying to figure out why she swerved into the other lane,” Tamura said on the scene Thursday morning.
Haborview personnel did not return a call asking for Longcrier’s condition Thursday afternoon.
Airlift Northwest was requested, but a helicopter was not able to make the flight out to Port Townsend, according to officials from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
A fire department crew drove Longcrier to Harborview, officials said.
Airlift Northwest could not be reached for comment.
Traffic was blocked in both directions along Cape George Road starting at 9:45 a.m. while first responders rescued Longcrier.
The road remained blocked while sheriff’s deputies and a tow truck cleared the rolled green Nissan Pathfinder from the roadway.
At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, traffic was still partially blocked along Cape George Road while crews from the Jefferson County Public Utility District repaired a guide pole, according to Arthur Frank, chief criminal deputy for the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials from the PUD said there were no reported power outages due to the wreck.
