PORT TOWNSEND — An 80-year old Port Townsend woman was airlifted to a Seattle hospital with a head injury after a three-car wreck on East Sims Way today.
Other occupants of the vehicles were shaken up but unhurt, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire Rescue spokesman.
The names of those involved, including the injured woman, were not available today, said Port Townsend Police Officer Patrick Fudally, department spokesman.
Fudally said the wreck was under police investigation and that details — including if anyone would be cited — would not be provided until the investigation is completed.
According to Beezley, an eastbound blue Ford Focus traveling in the 2200 block of East Sims Way slowed for a red light at the Kearney Street intersection and was struck from behind at about 11:52 a.m.
Beezley said that occupants of the Focus told firefighters they were completely stopped when a gray Toyota Camry struck them once and then struck them again.
The Camry had also been struck from behind twice by a Mercury Grand Marquis station wagon, driven by a 90-year old Port Townsend woman, Beezley said.
The driver of the Camry was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he said.
Hospital personnel will not release the condition of a patient without a name.
Public safety personnel shut down the roadway for about 20 minutes after the wreck.
