Port Townsend: Travel back in time to Victorian Festival today

Travel to the Port Townsend of yesteryear this weekend when the town celebrates the Port Townsend Victorian Festival Friday through Sunday.

The town will be decked out in its finest Victorian decor and visitors and residents alike can participate in workshops on restoring Victorian-era homes to solving a real-life Port Townsend mystery.

The schedule of events for the remainder of Victorian Days includes:

Today, March 22

* All day: History’s Mysteries town tour, various locations.

* 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Tours, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Jefferson and Tyler streets.

* 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Tours of the Rothschild House, Franklin and Taylor streets, $2.

* 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Exhibit, “Victorian Port Townsend,” Jefferson County Museum, $2.

* noon to 4 p.m.: Tour, commanding officers’ quarters, Fort Worden State Park, $1

* 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Victorian High Tea, Belmont Restaurant & Saloon, $13.95.

Saturday, March 23

* All day: History’s Mysteries town tour, various locations.

* 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Arts and Crafts Fair, American Legion Hall, free.

* 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Tour, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Jefferson and Tyler streets.

* 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Tours of Rothschild House, Franklin and Tyler streets, $2.

* 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Exhibit, “Victorian Port Townsend,” Jefferson County Museum, $2.

* noon to 4 p.m.: Tour, commanding officers’ quarters, Fort Worden State Park, $1.

* noon to 4 p.m.: Tour, restoration and historic homes, various locations, $10.

* 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Victorian High Tea, Belmont Hotel, $13.95.

* 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Victorian fashion show, City Council Chambers, donation.

* 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Victorian Grand Costume Ball, $15.

Sunday, March 24

* 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Arts and Crafts Fair, American Legion Hall, free.

* 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Tours of the Rothschild House, Franklin and Taylor streets, $2.

* noon to 4 p.m.: Tour, restoration and historic homes, various locations, $10.

* 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Exhibit, “Victorian Port Townsend,” Jefferson County Museum, $2.

* noon to 4 p.m.: Tour, commanding officers’ quarters, Fort Worden State Park, $1.

* 1 p.m.: History’s Mysteries winner announced, Council Chambers.

* 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Victorian High Tea, Belmont Restaurant & Saloon, $13.95.

On March 23 and 24, workshops will be held at Peninsula College, 181 Quincy St., for those wishing to study such topics as preservation and restoration to Victorian crafts and designs. Workshops are $15 per class, $25 per day or $40 for both days. Some classes have additional material fees, please ask when making reservations. * 10 a.m.: Kim Henry, wool spinning demonstration; Horace Foxall, maintaining historic structures; Joyce Cox, rosebud painting; Patricia Grummitt, bobbin lace making.

* 11 a.m.: Guy Sands, beer making (class begins at 10 a.m.); Horace Foxall, exterior painting; Mike Henery, bring back the bees.

* 1 p.m.: Rene Wells, beginning knitting; Seb Eggert, woodworking and fabrication; Mary Crumley, faux finishes and stenciling.

* 3 p.m.: Joyce Cox, snooping and gossiping.

Sunday, March 24

* 10 a.m.: Barbara Marseille, colors for Victorian facades; Seb Eggert, woodworking and fabrication; Rob McMillen, stone fencing; Denise Joy, bath herbs and potpourri; Patricia Grummitt, bobbin lace making.

* 11 a.m.: Horace Foxall, seismic retrofitting; Deb Abromovitz, beaded pin cushions.

* noon: Neims/Strehlow, garden structures; Joyce Cox, snooping and gossiping.
