Port Townsend: Town “pretty hopping” because J-Lo’s in the house

PORT TOWNSEND — For those not involved in shooting or cast as extras in Jennifer Lopez’s new film, the arrival of Hollywood’s hottest star in Port Townsend drew reactions ranging from the excited to the bemused, the star-struck to the nonchalant.

As a car rigged up with cameras and lights carrying Lopez briefly careened around downtown Wednesday afternoon, past curious onlookers, it seemed a week of all-things-Lopez in Port Townsend.

If you missed J-Lo in person, you could always catch her new movie, “Angel Eyes,” at the Uptown Theater. Or buy her new album at a music store on Water Street that stocked up on them in anticipation of the filming.

There is a Lopez look-alike contest scheduled for Saturday.

You could even go down to Lopez Avenue, though there was no filming being done there.

“This town is pretty hopping,” said Desiree King, 36, who works in a home for the handicapped on Lopez Avenue. “People are pretty excited.”

Other Lopez Avenue residents asked “Jennifer who?”

At the Uptown Theater, a showing of “Angel Eyes” on Wednesday night drew 15 people.

“We thought we might see her here tonight,” joked Lee Wilson, who was at the movie with his wife, Mary. “We would have seen the movie even without the crews here,” he added.

The couple said they planned to watch filming at the Port Townsend Post Office today.
