Port Townsend teens honored with Kiwanis Teen Leaders Awards

PORT TOWNSEND — The Kiwanis Club of Port Townsend announced the recipients of its 2018 Kiwanis Teen Leaders Awards at a reception in the Port Townsend Elks Lodge on March 10.

The awards, formerly known as the Thomas J. Majhan Teen Leaders Awards, celebrate youth leadership and community service.

Nominations

Jefferson County teens, aged 13-19, must be nominated by local community organizations to be considered.

The 2018 recipients and their volunteer organizations are: Ava Amos, Center Valley Animal Rescue; Callay Boire-Shedd, Port Townsend Film Institute; Ella Ashford, Applied Education Foundation; Dylan Tracer, Salish Sea Rescue; Haley Morrison, East Jefferson County Rotary and the InterAct club; Jason Kunz, the InterAct club and Students for Sustainability; Skylar Stekly, Center Valley Animal Rescue; Sophia Breithaupt, Salish Coast Elementary kindergarten teachers; and Tyler Nelson, Jefferson County 4-H.

Each teen was individually presented with a plaque and certificate and each will be further honored with a donation sent in their name to the local non-profit organization of his or her choice.
