PORT TOWNSEND — Firefighters, police and volunteers were continuing a search late Wednesday evening for a 75-year-old legally blind woman with Alzheimer’s who disappeared from her home.
Carmella “Carmen” A. Prior was last seen at her home on 37th and Haines streets, near Blue Heron Middle School, at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Family members believe she wandered from her home — where she lived with her husband — early Wednesday morning, Port Townsend Fire Department Lt. Randy Manus said Wednesday.
“We’re concerned that she’s wandered off into the woods behind the area where she lives,” Manus said.
Prior is described as white, 5 feet 2 inches tall, about 120 pounds, with gray hair.
She is believed to be wearing blue pants, black and white sneakers, and possibly a blue and white jacket or top.
She may be carrying a brown clutch purse.
She walks with small, purposeful steps and is nearly blind, the fire department reported.
Prior does not know her name, nor how to get food and water, due to severe Alzheimer’s, Manus said.
