YAKIMA — Port Townsend High School took no prisoners at the Class 3A baseball state championship tournament.
The Redskins, 17-8, pounded Lakewood 7-2 in the championship game Saturday afternoon after destroying Naches Valley 10-0 in the semifinals Friday night. Both games were held at the Yakima County Stadium.
“It’s unbelievable,” Port Townsend coach Tom Kent said about the two-game tournament. He said he had no idea why the Redskins won so easily against the best competition in Washington.
“It just happened,” he said.
It happened because the Redskins held their composure while their opponents wilted under pressure in the most important games of the prep players’ careers.
