Port Townsend skate park outhouse fire believed to be arson

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson Fire-Rescue officials are investigating what they believe was an arson fire that destroyed a portable toilet near Port Townsend Skate Park.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects in the Feb. 22 fire that destroyed the portable Sanikan toilet valued at $550 and owned by Good Man Sanitation.

The outdoor structure that surrounded the portable toilet was also destroyed and valued at about $4,000.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue Arson Investigator Kurt Steinbach encouraged those with information regarding the fire or other incidents in the area to call the Arson Alarm hot line at 800-55-ARSON, or Port Townsend police at 360-385-2322.

A reward of up to $10,000 may be provided by the Arson Alarm Foundation for information resulting in conviction. People providing information may remain anonymous.

According to Port Townsend Police Sgt. Ed Green, arson is a felony and punishable by imprisonment.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue responded to the fire at 6:57 p.m. Feb. 22.

A witness indicated that at about 6 p.m., he noticed “. . . a number of kids milling around the port-a-potty near the skate park.”

After seeing what he thought were “flickering flames,” he phoned 9-1-1.
