PORT TOWNSEND — The Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1479 says he’ll resign if the boys he leads can’t meet in the 73-year-old Scout House log cabin on Morgan Hill.
Mitchell Poling said Tuesday that the Boy Scouts of America’s Chief Seattle Council made a huge error in deciding to sell the land the building sits on.
Real estate developer and former City Councilman Vern Garrison said he paid $480,000 for the block on Cosgrove Street between Quincy and Madison streets.
Poling accused Chief Seattle Council Executive Brad Farmer of acting in bad faith in the land deal.
The property was purchased for the Scouts in 1923 by local businessman and Boy Scout Fred Lewis.
The log cabin was constructed in 1931 by volunteers, Poling said.
Members of the Scout troop have met there ever since.
