PORT TOWNSEND — Consultant Dennis Ray hopes to provide the Port Townsend School Board with three or four candidates for interim superintendent to consider on June 9.
The board will meet in a closed executive session at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Building, 450 Fir St., to review applications. A special meeting will be opened at 7 p.m.
Ray, president of Northwest Leadership Associates of Liberty Lake, said that as of Tuesday, he had spoken to about 15 people about the position.
Superintendent Tom Opstad will leave at the end of the month to take over as chief of the Aberdeen School District.
The board had chosen three finalists for the position, but two pulled out of consideration and the board did not choose the third, opting instead to hire an interim chief for the 2010-11 school year.
John Fotheringham of Northwest Leadership Associates shepherded the process.
Ray has taken over for Fotheringham.
The board is contracted to pay the firm $8,000 for the search but has not yet been billed for services.
Ray said that the criteria for an interim chief is different than a permanent superintendent.
“We are looking at some of the people who applied for the job before and might be interested in a temporary position,” Ray said.
