PORT TOWNSEND — By the end of next year, Point Hudson could be the home of the Port of Port Townsend.
Port commissioners will discuss a proposal today to move out of the authority’s Benedict Street office near the Boat Haven and into the old hospital building at Point Hudson Resort on the northeast end of downtown.
The Port commission and staff meet for a workshop at 9:30 a.m. today in the Marina Room at Point Hudson. A regular commission meeting begins there at 1 p.m.
Most recently, the building was used as a motel by then-resort operator Rowley Corp. of Seattle.
Since the Port took over operations of the resort, which it had leased out for 40 years, a number of improvement projects have been undertaken, including recreational vehicle site upgrades and marina slip replacements.
One idea for the site didn’t prove popular, however.
Port commissioners voted unanimously to explore their options for demolition of some of the 70-year-old Point Hudson sites last December.
After the Port Townsend City Council began to consider a moratorium on demolitions that would have effected the project, an agreement was reached between the two governments to try to solve the problems the old buildings face.
